Selecting a Reputable San Diego Commercial HVAC Contractor

Running a business is complex it itself, particularly when the air conditioning goes on the blink in the middle of a heat wave. Ensuring optimum air quality and comfort of your San Diego office or other commercial venue helps keep your workplace safe and pleasant as the mercury rises. Selecting a reputable San Diego commercial HVAC contractor to handle the servicing and repair of your heating and air conditioning system is an important, yet often daunting task.

The steps you should take to choose the right contractor to maintain and repair your property’s AC units mimic those you would take to find a doctor, lawyer or even a babysitter. Trust, reliability and experience are key words to take into consideration during your HVAC contractor selection process.

  • Credentials: Your San Diego commercial HVAC contractor should be insured, bonded, certified and licensed to work on your business’s property in the state of California. Technicians certified by NATE, such as Mauzy specialists, provide a leading edge in cooling service solutions, as well as excellent customer service.
  • References: Word of mouth is one of the best ways to hear about a qualified, professional San Diego HVAC contractor. Ask other local business owners who they recommend for their heating and cooling needs. You can also interview potential SD commercial HVAC companies to ensure they are a good fit for your business requirements.
  • Respect: A good HVAC business will have the utmost respect for you and your property. Determine if your San Diego area heating and cooling professionals are respectful by assessing their turnaround time for estimates, timeliness of their work and their dedication to cleanliness while on the job.

Serving all business sizes in the San Diego region, Mauzy Heating and Air Conditioning uses cost-effective and energy-efficient equipment to provide clients with premium HVAC repair and maintenance—without going over budget. Fall Energy Savings: Preventing Costly Air Leaks

With energy costs on the rise, it’s important to assess your home for air leaks. Even small leaks introduce unwanted air into your residence—and allow conditioned air to escape. Sealing these leaks can lower cooling and heating bills.

Finding Air Leaks

The first step in fixing a leak is to find it. Windows and doors are obvious offenders. First, close a piece of paper into your window. If you can pull it out, the window is not sealed properly. Other common spots for leaks are under and around doors, and around ductwork, outlets and plumbing. Any time one material changes to another (for instance, where brick joins siding), leaks can also occur.

One way of finding leaks is to turn off the furnace and turn on all bathroom and kitchen exhaust fans. Light a stick of incense, moving it along baseboards, window frames and areas that might leak. The smoke from the incense will indicate where the leaks are. Another method is to run a damp hand along potentially leaky areas. If you are still unsure, a qualified cooling expert can help find the source of these costly leaks.

Choosing the Right Weatherstripping and Caulk

Caulk can be used on small leaks of ¼" or less, and may be purchased in silicone, latex and similar varieties. Each type has different degrees of cost and durability. The type of caulking you use depends on the leak location and the material it adheres to. Weatherstripping can be also used to seal leaks around windows and doors, and types and costs of this product can also vary. Moisture exposure, frequency of use and location of doors and windows should all factor into the type of weatherstripping you select.

Additional Energy Tips

Remember that installing new attic insulation can significantly impact energy savings, as well. When you’re not comfortable doing this yourself, call the Mauzy professionals. We’ll provide a home energy audit, assess your existing insulation—and make sure your house is properly ventilated. This ventilation allows polluted air to escape while cooled or heated air stays inside.

If your energy costs are rising due to leaking air, don’t wait until the winter chill sets in. Ready to save on energy bills while keeping your house warm? Call a certified Mauzy HVAC technician to schedule your no-obligation consultation today.

Winterizing Your Air Conditioning System

Is your AC system ready for winter? Your heating system has been on a summer hiatus, so this fall is a great time to get it back into shape. Remember that quality HVAC companies book up quickly, so stay ahead of the game and schedule a maintenance checkup or inspection before the first cold spell hits.

Preventative maintenance will help your heating and cooling system run smoothly, reduce your winter utility bill, and ensure your family’s comfort and safety. Here are more reasons why you should have a tune-up before the heating season arrives:

1. Peace of mind with safety inspections and system testing: If your furnace has malfunctioned, it could cause dangerous carbon monoxide gas to build up in your home—which can also spark electrical fires. During a thorough safety inspection of your equipment, a HVAC contractor will examine for leaks, log operating temperatures, and tighten electrical connections to make sure all elements are operating safely.

2. Boost Performance: Clean systems are proven to perform more efficiently. Your HVAC contractor will check condensate pans and drain lines, clear any debris from the plumbing, inspect for refrigerant leaks, and repair or replace worn or failing parts. Because leaks in your ductwork can lead to significant energy loss, part of the inspection should include examining your air ducts for drafts and clearing out the dust. After cleaning your system, Mauzy technicians lubricate motors and bearings to extend the lifespan of your furnace.

3. Improve Air Quality: Air pollutants—like bacteria, mold and dirt—can collect and slow down your system’s efficiency and impact air circulation. Remember to clean or change your air filter once a month during peak usage times to maximize air flow and system efficiency.

At Mauzy Heating and Air Conditioning, our experienced technicians can safeguard your system and give you peace of mind: we guarantee it! Talk to our HVAC experts about Mauzy’s full-service maintenance options today so you’ll be ready in time for the change in season.

Your Programmable Thermostat: More Than a Gadget

Let’s be honest. Many of us use the simple, manual settings on our thermostat: turning on the AC when it “feels hot” in the house, and turning it off when we’re cool & comfortable. But if your home has a programmable thermostat, you’re missing out on a great way to save energy and improve your home comfort. When used properly, a programmable thermostat can save you $150 or more each year in cooling bills!

You may need to get out the manual to learn how to program your Venstar ColorTouch or other digital thermostat, but once you’ve discovered the ins and outs of scheduling your temperature settings—you’ll never go back.

Here are the benefits:

1. Programmable thermostats can save you a great deal of money on utilities, since you can set the thermostat to keep your home at a predetermined temperature. And, with a programmable thermostat, you’ll never have to remember to change the AC setting at a particular time of day or night. You’ll also save cooling costs when you’re away on vacation!

2. Your programmable thermostat keeps your home from overheating before you decide to turn on the air. If you wait until your home’s curtains, furniture and floor coverings have absorbed “super heat” before you decide to turn on the AC, your condenser may run all day and have a hard time catching up to climbing temps. If you set your thermostat to have the AC come on BEFORE the heat becomes oppressive, your AC unit will effectively cool your home in less time.

3. When winter arrives, your programmable thermostat can be set to run 20 to 30 minutes before you get out of bed—so you’ll wake up to a warm, cozy home, even if you lower the temperature overnight.
