If you haven’t heard about Smart Meters yet, you will soon. Smart Meters are digital devices that collect energy-use data and – unlike traditional meters – transmit and receive data, too. Smart Meters will record electric energy use every hour at your home and allow you to accurately monitor your consumption so you can make more “smarter” energy choices. All San Diego Gas & Electric customers will receive Smart Meters as part of a mandatory service upgrade.
So, what are the benefits of Smart Meters? For one, they help SDG&E find outages quickly so they can identify and fix the problem faster. They also help the environment, by helping you save energy which, in turn, saves natural resources. Smart meters can also provide additional benefits such as sending you notification when your bill reaches a certain amount and controlling smart appliances at your home or business through the Internet.
